UI/UX Design Discipline Explained Simply

I’ll attempt to explain this so that it’s easier to understand the differences. There seems to be a lot of confusion around these two discipline.

UI: user interface design is a discipline that requires talent. You need to learn graphic design tools and techniques to accomplish this. UI designers create the elements on screen that the person uses to make things happen.

UX: user experience design is a discipline that requires creativity. The UI is part of the overall experience of a product. UX designers decide how the UI flows and try to evoke emotional responses from the person using the product.

UI designers are graphic designers. UX designers are art directors. Sometimes the two overlap, if the person is both creative and talented.

Another way to look at it is that UI design involves making things pretty or nice to look at. UX design involves making the person feel a certain mood by using the product.
